A sovereigntist and a gentleman

Pierre Falardeau passed away in September of 2009. Director of Elvis Gratton and many other films, he was a staunch defender of the Québec sovereignty movement.

He also was a very intelligent and generous man who was respected by his neighbors, some of whom had very different political opinions.

To paraphrase Falardeau on David Suzuki: "an annoying little 'Japanouille'".

Yeah, some gentleman.

Yeah... there was also the Hezbollah flag and the Claude Ryan episodes. Falardeau was quite a beast when it came to political opinions... what he thought Suzuki was expressing at the time of the incident.

Above all, it's quite refreshing to have a glimpse at the human being... to see a man who could appreciate the company of an 80 years old English-speaking lady, despite his political beliefs.

Quite a gentleman in deed...

P.S.: Nice to see you're still around Todd.

“You’re right Bessie, and you’re ugly. But tomorrow morning, I’ll be sober.”

Whenever anyone mentions Winston Churchill, all I can think about is this misogynistic quote.
How could such a hateful person ever come to power? An outrage!

In the same line of thought, Mackenzie King said he wanted to "keep this part of the continent free from unrest and from too great an inter-mixture of foreign strains of blood" when refusing 900 Jewish refugees in 1939.
